Some lawyers will also make this claim so that they pull you into their office and then start suggesting other services.

Remember that advice by definition is just a suggestion. That means that the person or group you are getting legal advice from can have alternative purposes in mind that aren’t necessarily for your benefit. When you pay a lawyer to take on your case they are required by law and ethics to do their best at representing you. If you see a lawyer offering free advice, it is generally because they feel that they can benefit themselves in the process. Consider looking into non-profit or government organizations that are for the public good for your free legal advice. These businesses reputation is gained by making impartial decisions or advocating for certain rights. Since they are not profit driven like lawyers they are more likely able to offer free legal advice that has no strings attached. Perhaps one of the best parts is that there is virtually a specialty non-profit group in every field. Many times they have legal aids and lawyers on staff available to help give advice as well.
