Should We Use A Divorce Mediator Or An Attorney?

Divorce can be a very difficult thing for two people and their children to go through. During the divorce proceedings the parties involved can seek out a divorce mediator or divorce attorney to help get the process completed and the assets and custody decrees done. Here are some reasons why a divorce mediator or attorney might be better for your case.

Mediators Can Help With Couples Who Have Issues

Divorces can be incredibly messy especially if there have been infidelities and hurt feelings involved. However, a mediator can help both parties come together and amicably resolve their divorce. A divorce mediator is a great way to get a divorce mediated and settled before going before a judge. This is also less expensive than going to a divorce attorney and can be very efficient and save people a lot of time and money.

For More Complicated Divorces Attorneys Are Better

If you and your spouse have extensive financial and personal assets then it is best to seek out a divorce attorney to handle this matter. Divorce attorneys deal with property settlements, custodial agreements, spousal support and other issues on a daily basis. It is important for couples with complicated finances to ensure that their agreements are legally binding and fair so that the divorce can be completed within the confines of the law.

Current Relationship With Spouse Is Important

When assessing your divorce options consider the current environment. If neither party is speaking or wants to speak to each other then a divorce mediator usually will not work because the parties are hurt and often bitter and want to hurt each other during the divorce. If you and your spouse want a quick divorce then a mediator is the way to go.
